🏄‍♀️ Finally! ChatGPT Can Surf The Web

These Use-Cases Save Me Hours

📰 TL;DR [ 3 minute read ]

AI will never… It’s going to in the next six months. The AI landscape is changing faster than you think. Last week, OpenAI released a plugins launch that effectively allows users to search the internet. Today, we’ll quickly cover how this launch is game-changing for everyone.

How can the new ChatGPT plugin make your life easier?

So, for those of you who haven’t yet heard, ChatGPT released its plugin launch last week.

Now, I expect you’re thinking why is this important and what value can it bring to what I do? It can bring you a hell of a lot of utility.

Let’s take a look.

With plugins, ChatGPT can essentially tap into the web and third-party sites like, Shopify, Slack, Wolfram Alpha (a data site), Kayak (a travel booking site) and use apps like Zapier (Zapier connects to over 5000 extra apps).

Up until now, ChatGPT has been limited by the fact it can only pull information from its training data. It’s training data only had access to the internet up to early 2021, which of course has meant that ChatGPT is rather out of date.

However, with the new plugin, OpenAI says ChatGPT will not only be capable of browsing the web but also interacting with specific websites, potentially turning the system into a wide-ranging interface for all sorts of services and sites.

So what can you do with plugins?

Normally, with Zapier you can automate some pretty laborious tasks through adding in processes to your workflow, like below.

  • Following up leads

  • Automating social media posts

  • Adding Shopify orders to Google sheets

  • Adding specific notifications to Slack

  • Sharing daily sales reports and analytics

  • Sending emails

But if you connect Zapier to ChatGPT, you can do much much more. This new way of interacting with ChatGPT and combining it with automation makes completing business-critical tasks seamless. For example, you could search for a new lead in whatever database you have from ChatGPT like below. If the lead isn’t in there, you can ask ChatGPT to add it.

Or you could ask ChatGPT to write your emails to new leads, like below.

Alternatively, you could prompt ChatGPT to respond to Shopify orders and write customers a personalised message, break down sales reports and summarise them and then, having automated everything, sit down, relax and watch TV.

We’re only kidding, we know you’re busier than that, so what else does the update allow you to do?

Here were a few other things we could think of:

Fetch real-time info, like sports scores, stock market updates, or the latest headlines. You could then send that data (broken down into whatever format you wish) to anyone via Zapier.

Access knowledge-base data, such as company documents or personal notes. You could send these reports to different people at set time intervals.

Perform actions for users, like booking flights or ordering food - all in a couple of sentences to ChatGPT.

The list goes on - you’ll need to give it a whirl yourself to truly appreciate the new capacity it has.

Below is an example of the ChatGPT web browser plugin searching Hacker News (a tech and developer news site) and summarising the latest posts into a couple of paragraphs.

Say for instance, that you’re an investment banker. You could now ask ChatGPT to do this with a company report, or investment memorandum and it will succinctly summarise their website - saving you hours.

If you want to see the web browser plugin searching different sites, summarising key data and then writing up a report, check out this tweet below.

Unfortunately, at the date of this article, this plugin is only accessible via a waitlist, although this won’t be for long. If you want to jump on it, sign up here.

The Comic Office

Prompt explanation: “These took a LOT of prompts, most of them looking something like "Pixar Michael Scott from The Office, 8k render --v 4" with the occasional additional query elements like “happy” “grumpy” etc. And I ran a lot of re-rolls (read: hundreds for some), variations, etc.

Then I popped them into Photoshop for a simple color correction to get them to match across the board.” Credit. bayofbelfalas.
